Genetic improvement and the delivery of superior genetic traits to local producers, through traditional means and new molecular applications, will play a major part in this process. The skills ILRIC is able to provide in these areas will be vital in ensuring the maximising of livestock productivity. More specifically, ILRIC has experience in combining quantitative genetics and reproductive technologies to enhance genetic improvement of livestock in developed and developing countries.

Australian livestock industries have experience in breeding high quality seed stock for a range of environments, including temperate and tropical conditions. Australian expertise and genetic material will be useful to all developing livestock sectors. Through the implementation of national programs aimed at strengthening breeding at the local level, indigenous breeds of globally significant genetic value will be conserved and improved.
